If any serious issues such as cavities or gum diseases are found, the hygienist most often inform our dentist for a more thorough examination.

Removing plaque and tartar around gums: Regular flossing at your home can stop the build-up of tartar. Our dental hygienist uses scaler, which is a small hooked tool used to remove plaque and tartar. These are accumulated around the gums. More the amount of tartar more scraping is done to get rid of it. There might be some scraping sound involved, but this is normal. Ultrasonic scaler is also used sometimes which produces gentle vibration and water for removing large deposits.

Polishing and Flossing: Our hygienist polishes the teeth and removes any strains using a handled electric tool with a rubber prophy cup attached and a gritty toothpaste. Patient can feel a slow grinding motion on teeth during this step. Flossing is done by our dentists to take care of the minute particles that might have settled in between your teeth.

Rinsing: It is advised you to rinse your mouth thoroughly to remove all the impurities that might have gathered.

Fluoride treatment: Often, patients can choose what flavour fluoride gel they like. This gel is then placed inside a mouthpiece that the patient must wear for approximately a minute.

What is the post treatment care required?
